Ex: Selecting XYZ, the positive X-axis points into the joint&#8217;s bone and toward the joint&#8217;s first child joint. The Y-axis points at right angles to the X-axis and Z-axis. And the Z-axis poinssideways from the joint and its bone.<\/li>\n<li><em>Note: If you look in perspective view<\/em>, <em>you can see these axes and where they point.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8211; DBL + CLICK on the <em>Joint Tool <\/em>for the options window.<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Joint Tool Options<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; ORIENTATION: XYZ<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>&#8211; [CLOSE]<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Create a second joint similar to the first one<\/li>\n<li><em>&#8211; Note: As you draw the joints they are automatically oriented toward their child.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manibogstudios.com\/blogger\/2012\/02\/10\/lesson-09-skeleton\/09_skeletons_005\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-893\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-893\" title=\"09_skeletons_005\" src=\"http:\/\/www.manibogstudios.com\/blogger\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/09_skeletons_005.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Joint Rotation Axis\n<ul>\n<li>To understand the effect of joint orientation you need to roate in local mode and compare the two<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; DBL + CLICK on the <em>rotate-tool<\/em> to bring up the options box;<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Select <em>Local<\/em> as the rotation Mode;<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li><em>(specifies that you want to rotate nodes based on their local orientation rather than using the global world axis)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>&#8211; Close the tool window.<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Select the second joint of both chains and see the difference in rotations as you rotate them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Complex Joint Chain<\/h2>\n<p>Using a complex joint chain can simplify your work. i.e. ( navigate in a hierarchy of joints as you create them or reorient all the joints automatically with a command.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Navigate in Joint Hierarchy\n<ul>\n<li>&#8211; Delete\u00a0 all the joints in your scene;<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Switch to <em>top view.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Press the <em>y<\/em> hotkey to access Joint Tool. <em>(make sure Orientation is XYZ)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Draw three joints as follows:<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manibogstudios.com\/blogger\/2012\/02\/10\/lesson-09-skeleton\/09_skeletons_006\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-896\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-896\" title=\"09_skeletons_006\" src=\"http:\/\/www.manibogstudios.com\/blogger\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/09_skeletons_006.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"192\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Draw the Thumb made of two joints<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manibogstudios.com\/blogger\/2012\/02\/10\/lesson-09-skeleton\/09_skeletons_007\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-897\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-897\" title=\"09_skeletons_007\" src=\"http:\/\/www.manibogstudios.com\/blogger\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/09_skeletons_007.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"414\" height=\"179\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Press the arrow up twice to put the selection on the wrist. <em>(arrows help you navigate joints)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Draw the index joints and press the up arrow to navigate back to the wrist when you create the other fingers<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manibogstudios.com\/blogger\/2012\/02\/10\/lesson-09-skeleton\/09_skeletons_008\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-898\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-898\" title=\"09_skeletons_008\" src=\"http:\/\/www.manibogstudios.com\/blogger\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/09_skeletons_008.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"517\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Snap To Grid\n<ul>\n<li>&#8211; Press the up arrow until the selection is on the shoulder joint<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; HOLD X, to snap to grid. The spine joint should be the parent of the shoulder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Reroot A Skeleton to change the direction of the joint. Change who is parent or child of who.\n<ul>\n<li>The shoulder and spine joint are not in the proper hierarchy. Problems usually arise when you select multiple bones and rotate them.
